Canada Election 2025: Advance Polls Open Over Easter Weekend — Here’s How You Can Vote

Advance voting for the 2025 federal election is officially underway, coinciding with the Easter long weekend.

Polls opened on Friday, April 18, and will remain open through Monday, April 21, giving voters four full days to cast their ballots early.

Advance Voting Details:

  • Dates: Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21

  • Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (local time) each day

  • Where to vote: Your advance polling station is listed on your voter information card, or you can search your location on the Elections Canada website.


What You Need to Vote:

To vote at an advance poll, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen

  • Be 18 years or older on election day

  • Prove your identity and address

You have three options to verify your identity:

Option 1:

  • Provide one government-issued photo ID with your name and address (e.g., a driver’s licence).

Option 2:

  • Provide two pieces of ID, both with your name, and at least one with your address. Examples include:

    • Utility bill

    • Bank statement

    • Voter information card
      (A full list is available on the Elections Canada website.)

Option 3:

  • No ID? You can sign a written declaration and have someone vouch for you.

    • The voucher must be someone who knows you and is registered at the same polling station.

    • They must show their own ID and can only vouch for one person, unless in a long-term care facility.


Other Ways to Vote Early

1. Vote at an Elections Canada Office

  • Available until Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

  • Vote using a special ballot process

  • Over 500 offices across Canada — find yours on the Elections Canada website

Office Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Saturday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

  • Sunday: Noon – 4 p.m.

2. Vote by Mail

  • Apply online or at any Elections Canada office by Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

  • Once you apply to vote by mail, you cannot vote at advance polls or on election day

  • Instructions and application forms are available on the Elections Canada website


Election Day

Monday, April 28 is election day.

  • Polls will be open for 12 hours, depending on your time zone.

  • In the Eastern Time Zone, polls run from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
