The City of Burlington is seeking passionate and experienced architects to join its Urban Design Advisory Panel for a fulfilling two-year term starting in May 2024.
Background
Burlington stands at a pivotal juncture in its developmental narrative. With scarce greenfield spaces remaining for traditional suburban expansions, the city is embarking on a transformative journey of growth within its urban confines.
Panel’s Mandate
The Burlington Urban Design Advisory Panel plays a crucial role in this evolution by offering impartial, professional, and innovative urban design counsel to the Community Planning Department. Its focus spans tall and mid-rise constructions of five storeys or more, as well as public development projects, studies, and policy initiatives aimed at elevating the city’s design standards.
Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates must meet stringent eligibility criteria, including:
- Professional Expertise: A minimum of ten years’ full membership with either the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) or the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC).
- Diverse Design Experience: Demonstrated proficiency across domestic and international projects of varying scales, encompassing tall, mid-, and low-rise structures.
- Leadership Acumen: Proven leadership in urban development and a comprehensive grasp of construction techniques, financial management, and sustainable design practices.
- Commitment: Availability to attend monthly meetings during business hours, with each session lasting approximately four hours and covering a maximum of three projects.
